IDL Tools International 2000CP T10 Keychain MultiTool

April 25, 2010

Cheap IDL Tools International 2000CP T10 Keychain MultiTool Review

At least ten years ago, I bought an M5 SeberTool. That’s what this is. I’ve carried it almost every day since then, and typically use it every day. After a decade of use, it still works beautifully. Years of wear means that I can no longer clip it to a key chain (it will work open now), but I prefer carrying it loose in my pocket, anyway. That’s the only complaint I have with this tool, and it’s not much of a complaint. It clips in a plane that’s perpendicular to that of the key ring, so that’s bulkier, anyway.

Some of the good things: The Phillips head is a true #1 Phillips, and stands in well for removing most #2 Phillips screws. The two flat blades work perfectly. The bottle opener actually opens bottles. The tweezers are not bad, but I carry a better pair on wildland fire work (Uncle Bill’s Tweezers, about ). In a pinch, the tweezers in this multi-tool are better than those on a Swiss Army knife. The nail file works very well, with coarse and fine sides, and has worn well. The wire cutters are REAL bypass cutters. The pliers work well, but you won’t have huge leverage. These are not Vise Grips, but they’ll do everything I want in a tool that I carry everyday. The knife blade is minimal, of a basic steel, but I’m a knife snob. The knife will work, just don’t expect a razor.

It takes a bit of practice to figure out the tool locks on the ends of the handles, but once you do figure out how they work, you’ll love them. When you pop a tool out, it locks into position until you unlock it to store it. That lets you apply enough pressure to things like the Phillips head, so that they don’t cam out, without risking your fingers to a “fold-over” collapse.

Best of all, this is smaller than most key fobs, not a big, heavy, clunky Leatherman-type multi-tool. I carry a big pocket knife (Al Mar SERE 2000). I find the combination of a large, excellent knife and this small multi-tool to be much more useful and effective than any multi-tool that I’ve seen, and it’s very comfortable to carry. Most big multi-tools have to be worn on a belt, and interfere with saw chaps, packs, even arm chairs and seat belts.

I’m glad IDL Tools is selling what Seber used to sell.

Started with one and got them moving to my neighbors yard and then I created a moving perimmeter with three more on a half acre. Seems like they are gone…no more mounds of dirt!

Progressive International 9 Inch Silicone Gripper Tongs, Red

Cheap Progressive International 9 Inch Silicone Gripper Tongs, Red Review

The tongs work for everything I need. They are far superior to the other 2 pairs of silicone tongs I own, which now sit in the back of a drawer. They grip well, they seem to clean easy so far, they appear to be sturdily crafted, and are not prone to finger pinching as some are. The locking mechanism is well crafted and does not accidentally come undone at inconvenient moments. All in all a good product.

Progressive International Soap Dispenser

Cheap Progressive International Soap Dispenser Review

First and foremost – if you think it’s blue, you should know that it’s not. It’s crystal clear and so takes on the color. With orange colored dish soap it’s a beautiful orange shade. With a green soap – well, you get the idea.

It’s an odd shape, kinda stubby, but I find I really like it after a few days of use. The shape and rubbery ring on the base make it rock solid stable. The very high quality pump dispenses as little as a drop or two, and as much as a tablespoon with a single push. And, there is no drip – none. I don’t know how they do that, but I love it. Except for the stainless steel spout, it’s all very solid looking mix of clear and black plastic.

I was thoroughly fed up with the cheesy pumps that so many mass merchandisers now sell, so I took a chance on this chubby little guy. I’m really glad that I did.

J.A. Henckels International Provence 45-Piece Stainless-Steel Flatware Set, Service for 8

Cheap J.A. Henckels International Provence 45-Piece Stainless-Steel Flatware Set, Service for 8 Review

Gave 4 stars instead of 5 because was expecting the flatware to have a little more weight. Classic, elegant design – two sided pattern – brushed and polished. Overall, a good price (~ a set before 4-for-3 promotion). Missed out on the J.A. Henckels 45pc Bellasera Flatware Set deal so jumped on this instead. This ended up being better priced. You can find this at Macy’s [...]) and check it out yourself before you buy.

International Plug Adapter USA Female to India 16 Amp Grounded BS546 Male Plug

Cheap International Plug Adapter USA Female to India 16 Amp Grounded BS546 Male Plug Review

Its very simple – plastic shell and some screws with metal to transfer electricity. It works great in India.
Only thing is this is a adaptor – which means it will not convert voltages so make sure your device can handle 240v (it will say on the device’s plug 110v-240v)
I tried it with external hard drives, laptops, electric razors, electric toothbrushes, HDTV camcorders and cellphone chargers… as long as the device says 110v-240v you’re good to go.

Cheap Progressive International Cookie Cutter and Stencil Set Review

My wife loves them. Got all the major holidays covered for cookies. One review talked about the stencils not working well, but they work fine to make an outline on the dough which may or may not be decorated after baking. Really nice set; sturdy, easy to clean.

International Record Review

March 23, 2010

Cheap International Record Review Review

This glossy British classical music magazine that focuses primarily on recordings was founded in 2000 by, I believe, some disgruntled former ‘Gramophone’ writers. The staff of writers include such well-known reviewers as Martin Anderson, Hugh Canning, Jed Distler, Mortimer H. Frank, Harris Goldsmith, Julian Haylock, Simon Heighes, Robert Layton, Donald Manildi, Andrew Porter, Charles Timbrell, Raymond S. Tuttle, John Warrack and others. As you can see, the writers primarily come from England but there are far more American reviewers than write for ‘Gramophone,’ giving it a bit more trans-Atlantic balance than the older magazine. It is, as they say, ‘for those who know their music but who are prepared to be further enlightened, appreciate good sound-reproduction, without the need for gimmicks and who want up-to-date, authoritative comment on the vast number of new and historical classical recordings being released worldwide.’ There are monthly review sections for orchestral, chamber, instrumental, choral, vocal and opera CDs as well as for DVDs and books. Issues also contain

- A frank, topical and pertinent editorial
- An extensive and detailed Index to the reviews
- Letters to the Editor
- A list of new international releases
- News pages and obituaries
- Special extensive features on major repertoire (with exhaustive comparisons of extant recordings)
- A Directory of record company websites

There are no sections dealing with sound reproduction or new electronic gadgets. One plus is that there is a good deal of attention paid to historical recordings. For instance, in a recent issue there was an extensive section about historical opera re-issues.

The writing is generally both graceful and informed. It is rare that I don’t learn a good deal from an issue, and I tend to read every word of every article. The only drawback for American subscribers (and the reason I’ve awarded only 4 stars) is that, with the currently disadvantageous exchange rate for the US dollar against the British pound, it is a bit expensive. I, however, would not like to be without it.

I hope this description helps prospective subscribers decide whether this is their cup of tea.
