Cheap Nintendo DS Lite Metallic Silver Review

I love the system. The screen and front get smudgey fast. I love playing the games. The 3d is not as good as the new 3DS’s 3d will be thought. I would recomend buying it.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Cheap Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Review

Outside of Uncharted 2, I dont really know of any other PS3 game that comes close to how good Metal Gear Solid 4 is.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is a story about an rapidly aging artifically created soldier by the name of Solid Snake, who is seeking to thwart the evil plans of a man by the name of Liquid Ocelot. Solid Snake goes through about 4 or 5 acts in the game, each scenery or locale drastically different from the previous one. Here are the pros:

1. You have control over what type of game you want: action or stealth. This game gives you a wide assortment of weapons, and you could easily go through it blasting away(of course, it depends on what difficulty level you have selected…you dont last long with this technique in “Big Boss” mode). You could also go through the game without a bad guy ever seeing you. What I love is that there are still are scene that require you to use weapons. For someone who wants to use stealth for the whole game with the exception of these mandatory shoot em up scenes, its sheer brilliance.

2. the visuals are spectacular, especially in 1080p. The visual transition quality from cut scenes to live game play are almost seamless.
3. Voice acting is above par, to the point where some characters are actually pretty annoying. (Snakes assortment of grunts, and Octacon being annoying as f***)
4. Not every act requires the same actions or goals. The game plays out like a movie, with different creative objectives in each chapter.

Cons:
1. I would say that the game feels short for being so epic.
2. Too many cutscenes. Sometimes it feels like half the game is just cutscene after cutscene, but thats inherent in any metal gear game.

This is a must have for any ps3 owner.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance

Cheap Marvel Ultimate Alliance Review

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance takes the team approach of the X-Men Legends series and applies it to the extensive Marvel encyclopedia of characters. Ever want to see Ghost Rider, Wolverine, Blade and the Thing team up and break stuff? Congrats, you’ve found the right place.

Most of characters in the Marvel universe makes an appearance in the game, whether as a playable character or as one of several dozen NPCs, with even more mentioned in the dialogue. Your 4-man team ends up being a personal dream team – in my case, Iron Man, Captain America, Dr. Strange and the Silver Surfer – each of whose abilities you can tweak to your liking. The story is fairly deep and engaging, and took me about 40 hours to beat with most of the sidequests completed. Another run-through of the game took about 35 and saw me finish everything.

Two vast improvements (I think) over the Legends series are custom teams and ultra attacks. Now, besides getting a bonus for a given combination of characters, like the Fantastic Four or Femme Fatale (picking any 4 females), you can actually set a custom team and level up their team attributes, like group damage and the ability to have characters “on the bench.” As long as 3 of the 4 characters on the screen are from your team, the bonuses you earned for that team apply.

Also, the ultra attacks are simpler now. Rather than finding slices that power up an attack for a single character, each character builds up “momentum” by beating the snot out of bad guys and can unleash their special attack when they max out their momentum. What’s more, all other characters with full momentum will unleash their attacks as well, and with many ultra attacks adding effects to the other ultra attacks, the result is a devastating deluge of pain for all the bad guys on screen.

The one downside of the game is the same that plagued the Legends series – most of the game is spent slogging through enemy drones in button-mashing mayhem. Some people find this annoying, and some don’t mind – I didn’t mind, but that had a lot to do with the variety of characters at my disposal (I made a habit of switching out a character at every save point).

Despite this, the game tends to flow very well and is well worth the purchase for any Marvel fan or anyone who like an action-centered RPG.

Age of Empires II, Gold Edition

Cheap Age of Empires II, Gold Edition Review

Let me first say this, I have played AoE:AoK for more hours than any other game I have ever played, which I give credit not only to the solid and fun gameplay but to one thing that almost every game, with or without a story mode, should have, random maps. But that is not the only reason why this game is great; the great combination of sound, well-implemented graphics and balanced, constantly engaging gameplay make this one of the most solid RTS game ever. Now I have finally gotten around to reviewing this game after so many years here goes.

The gameplay for this game is superb, with a greatly balanced system for fighting and for the economy. One thing that I found engaging was the map editor which gives you many more things to do than just make a new map. You could, for example, playing with the units stats which I always found fun to see 20 samurai defeat hundreds for paladins. Also, though I never really did this much, you could make scripts for events and other things like how the computer would act and such. One thing that I thought was a nice idea to remain historically accurate was how they block certain civilizations from getting or researching certain technologies, like how the Japanese cant research some gunpowder tech and the like. Though the gameplay is solid and well thought out, people looking for new and innovative features will not find much here. I find this is not hindrance as the gameplay is so fun and addicting that I think that this has no real effect on actual enjoyment of the game.

The graphics for this game are okay but not great, seeing how they are run on a 2d engine. But I usually dont care about the graphics as much as how solid and fun the game is. The units are varied, you can easily tell a galleon from a fire ship in each unit type has a distinct feel to it. But those people looking for a flashy game should go look somewhere else.

The sound in this game fits the mood well and doesnt intrude at all. I generally like music in games and this is no exception, the attacks and such have nice sounds to them and are generally well done.

Then comes the value which is very high. The random maps keep you coming back for more, with experiences that are both new and varied, you will rarely (if ever) get the same map twice, which really raises the replay value. Also there are so many civilizations that its fun to see how you have to change you style according to what civilization your playing, like how the Huns dont have to make houses. Also some value comes from the historical aspect of the game, from which they provide a kind of encyclopedia on the different civilizations and such. I have actually learned a lot from this game and it helped me become more interesting in exploring certain historical topics.

Overall this is a great game that has a lot of replay value, rock solid gameplay and sound that enhances (rather than detracts) from the experience. Since by now you can buy it for very cheap it is a good idea to pick this up and play it, it is a great game that every strategy fan should play.

SteelSeries Limited-Edition Zboard Keyset Wrath of the Lich King

Cheap SteelSeries Limited-Edition Zboard Keyset Wrath of the Lich King Review

Had ordered this for Christmas on the 13th of December, all of my gifts said they would get to the house in time for the holidays. This keyboard ended up being back ordered through Amazon, and it still hadn’t been shipped by January 15th. I canceled the order and ordered with another vendor, got it in two days.

The keyboard itself is great, I bought it for my wife for World of Warcraft. The macro buttons work very well, and the switchable plates for the keyboard make it really handy to switch from application to application. I personally prefer a normal keyboard for whatever I do because I play so many different games, but for someone who just plays one or two, then this keyboard may be the way to go. Easy to install, and the software that comes with it will auto-update to the newest version whenever a new plate is put on.

Retro Game Challenge

Cheap Retro Game Challenge Review

If you like any of the genres represented (fixed screen shooters, forced scrolling shooters, platform/puzzle, platform action, console RPG, top-view racing) you will almost certainly enjoy the rendition here. The games are sort of hybrids of the best games of their era, often with a novel twist.

For most players, there will be at least one game that makes the cartridge worth purchasing on its own, and multiple enjoyable titles. On the flip side, most players will also run into a game that they don’t especially like, as well. The cheat codes help with this issue, and so were an inspired touch. (provided in-game, no less)

The biggest complaint I had with the game is that you have to play all of the games in sequence to be allowed to play the next. I never really enjoyed top-down racing games, and you have to play through one of these twice. (or two of these, once if you prefer looking at it that way. It’s really the same game twice, though.)
Since I didn’t enjoy that style of game, the two times grew tedious.

The next biggest irritation is that the goals reset the game. Just announce it on the lower screen for pity’s sake, and let the game continue! This costs quite a bit of time without adding to the fun. Hopefully that’s been repaired in the sequel. Hopefully that sequel is coming over here. (For that matter, it would be nicer if there were multiple challenges achievable at once, and in any order. I think the sequel fixes most of my issues with the game.)

The last complaint is that a few of the games are too short. Now, for the most part that’s a good thing, so you can move on. In the case of Haggleman, I kinda wanted more variety to the levels. HG3 was, in my opinion, the best game in the collection, but was only a few levels long. HM1 & 2 were similar enough that they seemed alternate levels of each other. (more or less)

That’s essentially my entire list of complaints, so all in all, it was a great collection. If these games were released on the NES back in the day (and they could have been) almost all of them would now be classic greats.

Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 2 [Game Download]

May 3, 2010

Cheap Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 2 [Game Download] Review

(*with Voodoo root beer apparently)
I have to hand it to Telltale: Chapter 1 was fun. I especially liked the Blade Runner reference at the end; it was well handled like the rest of the gags.
So, when rumors of Chapter 2 began emerging on the Steam forums(I bought the 5 chapter pack on Steam), I was very excited.
I wasn’t disappointed.
Chapter 2 is even more fun than the first(although some of the fun in unintentional,to be discussed later in this review). The err…”mer-people” are hilarious; the androgyny is well played(vaguely reminds me of Omega of Mechanical Animals, an album by Marylin Manson).

Your items from Chapter One carry over(not sure what happens if you don’t have a Chapter One savefile but I assume you start off with the same stuff), and they are still of use to you, from that lovely pyrite parrot (yes there are gags involving the “Mighty Pirate”) to that mysterious locket.
The game is, dare I say, easier than the first chapter, with the first half being easier, while the second part left me scratching my head sometimes(yes I did go on the fourms after a couple of hours of being stuck in a part, afterwords facepalming :) ). Thankfully there isn’t a “maze” sequence;in Chapter One the directions were a bit ambiguous(but admittedly not too different from Secret of Monkey Island). Oh, and no insult swordfighting; the newly introduced character mentions that its “only for farmboys now”(”Well you fight like one”). Also, she is a huge fan of Guybrush and can hold her breath for 5 minutes :)

My one gripe? When you get to Spinner Cay the mast repair…er…”person” can swim down to meet you basically at your boat, but it forces you to come to its store for a repair every time. The store is not a long walk from the dock but when its the fourth time you broke your mast(assuming Winston’s first hint doesn’t help) it does get a bit annoying to make that walk.

The unintentional fun? In one part you sink a ship after insulting another captain and managing to get the fired cannonball to hit the attacking captain’s ship;however, the game acts like he’s still there and allows you talk to him like his ship was still there. In addition, the door to the lower deck of his ship is left floating. There is another part involving the parrot that has a similar bug(its right before the “invisible pirate captain” BTW, you can get another pyrite turtle and hang it up on…) that is even funnier.
However, there is one bug that does detract from the experience, compression or something like that has degraded the quality of the voice acting, so there are problems with “s” sounds especially. I thought it was a problem with my integrated sound but apparently even X-Fi sound cards have this problem.
Overall a fun game for almost all ages. However if you count Halo 3/CS/GoW/CoD as your favorite games and nothing else you will be disappointed; the action is of course, a bit slow.
I strongly recommend this game to almost all(and even if you like twitch FPSes you should still try the demo) and from what I hear the Wii version isn’t too bad either, although they are a bit behind in releasing chapters for WiiWare.

Buying on Amazon means you can buy chapters individually, however try the demo and if you like it, buy the bundle. at the very least you get two good chapters out of 5.
