Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Silver)

Cheap Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Silver) Review

While I prefer to use my DSLR whenever possible, it’s not practical to carry it around everywhere that I go with my two young children, so I have always also kept a point-and-shot nearby for candids. My last little Canon finally bit the dust when my oldest son bent the retractable lens out of place and then tried to shut the camera off, jamming it for good. That was after three and a half years of use and abuse, so I definitely got my money out of it, which is why I went for a Canon again to replace it.

This is REALLY a compact little camera, very sleek and stylish. The software has definitely had some changes and updates, but it only took me a few days to get acclimated and now I find that it’s easier and quicker to use than my older one. The pictures are obviously not comparable to my DSLR, but I’ve gotten some great shots, so I already considering this a worthwhile investment. In my opinion, if you’re looking for a easy to carry, easy to operate, affordable digital camera, this is the one for you.

(As a sidenote, I purchased a refurbished model, saved a few bucks, got a brand-new quality camera, and ended up with an unexpected bonus battery in the box!)

GGS DSLR LCD Optical Glass Screen Protector for Canon EOS 40D, 50D camera

Cheap GGS DSLR LCD Optical Glass Screen Protector for Canon EOS 40D, 50D camera Review

I bought these not so sure about how they would look and work. well not that I have them installed I forget they are there and have no more worries about my LCD getting hurt. These things are awesome for protection and practically disappear when you installed them. They stick great and only touch around the black frame around your LCD. The viewing though it I think is actually better than just the screen. I thought the glare my get worse with these but it doesn’t. Some of the best protection I have ever bought for my cameras, wish I would have done it sooner. This to me know is just as important as getting a UV filter.

Lumiquest Promax System

Cheap Lumiquest Promax System Review

I had been struggling with bounce flash issues for some time before I decided to bite the bullet and deviate from the standard “bounce flash accessories”, and the fact that this one looked like a space ship did not help the issue, but I’m so very glad I did.

Panda eyes (or raccoon eyes) are a problem when shooting and bouncing a flash. Light bounces on a ceiling for example, and then falls straight down onto the face. The falloff most often seems to be hindered by the brow bone, which in turn, acts as a shade, which then creates a shadow in the eye socket area. Voila – you have instant panda eyes.

I have learned from experience that nobody likes to look like the living dead and no amount of post processing will save a photo that does not have enough detail/information to pull out of it. Sure, you can cheat and add some “catchlights” into the subjects eyes, but that only acts as a band-aid. It won’t take away the fact that your “bounced subject victims” will still look like they have been up for 72 hours straight. Quite literally, not a pretty picture.

And then along came Lumiquest Pro Max 80/20 bounce flash device. I decided to go whole hog and get the Lumiquest Promax System (complete with bounce cards, silver, white, gold, diffusion screens etc.) but what worried me was a) the bulk of having all these extra gadgets on my flash (as if a huge flash was not cumbersome and obtrusive enough) and b) the fact that it looked like something out of a science fiction movie. But after seeing the results, I was sold. Hands down, this was one of the best investments I had ever made for my flash photography assignments.

The 80/20 does just that – 80% goes up and gets bounced onto whatever “ceiling” and the 20% then gets deflected onto the face of the subject. And sometimes, 20% is all you need! The result – an overall pleasant glow around the subject, as well as a nice uniform illumination on the face. NO MORE PANDA EYES!!! The colored inserts (along with the white card), give a wonderful extra punch, without the knockout of a bare unit. The diffusion that covers the grid is similar to what a diffusion box would give you. Perfect soft diffused light, just enough to illuminate the face.

I was also very thankful and excited when my futuristic bounce accessory saved the day during a wedding in a church where the ceilings were 200 + feet high. Unless you have a gigantic power pack strobe, there is no way, a regular “bounced flash” will save you. I pulled out my 80/20, attached the gold insert (it actually covers the grid on the inside), and presto!! A soft warm glow that was perfect for the wedding photos, and yet, unobtrusive enough to not get people rubbing their eyes from the “atomic bomb flash” of the larger Metz flashes…

So yes, this Lumiquest diffuser looks a bit strange to some, and impressive to others (to my surprise, not many photographers use this), the results speak for themselves. Don’t expect this system to light up an entire room, or be able to light up a group of more than 10 people @ more than 10 feet away, but in situations where all you get is one chance to get the “perfect shot”, this accessory is simply perfect!

Cheap Polaroid 600 Film Single Pack Review

You can’t find Polaroid film in stores anymore, so being able to buy it online from Amazon was great. Plus the price was about what I would have expected to pay in the store, or a little cheaper. Because of the scarcity of finding this product in a store, needless to say, don’t use the camera as much, but least now I know where to find the film when I need more. Thank you.

Cheap Carry Case for Flip Video for Flip Video Ultra Camcorder (Nylon Black) Review

For people like me, who carry their FLIP Video in their purse…this is a must have item. The case is perfect and has a inside pouch for holding other items. I don’t think the flimsy drawstring bag you get with a Flip Phone is really enough. That is, not is you are clumsy like me. Go for one of these hard cases because as the saying goes, “Better safe than sorry.”

RBC7 Replacement Batterycartridge By American Battery Co

Cheap RBC7 Replacement Batterycartridge By American Battery Co Review

The replacement battery’s external appearance was very similar to the APC battery that it replaced. Of course, the important parts cannot be seen, only experienced…so time will tell. However, as one reviewer has noted, the plastic tab used to more easily remove the battery from the UPS housing was on the wrong end of the battery. It was attached to the same end as the electrical connector and would be useless if installed as delivered. Before installing the battery into my SmartUPS 1400 (discontinued model), I carefully removed the plastic tab (the adhesive is pretty strong) and moved it to the opposite end. Then I connected the terminals and easily slid the new battery into the UPS housing; the fit was fine. One small gotcha makes you wonder about quality control though; I have never seen this mistake when I have opted for APC replacement batteries.

Impecca DFM1512 15″ Digital Photo Frame in Black

Cheap Impecca DFM1512 15″ Digital Photo Frame in Black Review

The Impecca is “impeccable” as they state and it’s true! This frame is so easy to use, insert your media stick, turn on the switch and VOILA…you have an instant slide show. Unlike other brands that ask you to select the media, i.e. slides or movies, etc. then make you walk through 3 more steps BEFORE the slide show starts, this Impecca “starts instantly”! My only slight issue with it…is that sometimes it won’t “start” with the remote control…thus necessatating lifting up the frame and turning “off” the switch…and then turning it back “on”…a minor annoyance! Also I wish they had put the switch on the side…rather than the bottom.

Don’t waste your time with other digital frames…go for this one! Very user friendly! Also I purchased the 15″ screen size…smaller screens just don’t have the “punch” and “effect” like this frame does…so go for the 15″ screen! Bright, sharp, clear and the random transitions for slides is a plus!
