Cheap Leatherman Expanse e33T Straight Blade Knife Review

My wife recently gave me this as a birthday present. I’ve always liked Leatherman tools… I’ve had a Leatherman Wave multi-tool for years now and it has been great. The e33t seems to be made of quality materials and feels really solid in the hand. This knife has one of the best quick launch mechanisms I’ve come across. It takes very little practice to be able to quickly flick the blade open using the “blade launcher”. The knife can also be opened using the thumb stud. A liner lock keeps the knife securely open (in my opinion, liner locks are more secure than back locks). The blade is made of 154CM stainless steel. This may make it more difficult to sharpen because of its hardness, but ultimately, hardness results in a longer lasting sharp edge. The e33t comes with 4 tools: the blade (obviously), flat-head screwdriver, Philips screwdriver, and a carbiner (which also functions as a bottle opener). This knife also features a pocket clip which is a necessity for this type of knife in my opinion.
The Expanse functions perfectly, fits great in the hand, and looks great clipped in your pocket. Looks much more rugged and less geeky than Victorinox multi-tool knives any day of the week!

Cheap Xuron 410 Micro Shear Flush Cutter Review

This is my second pair of these cutters. Xuron makes good quality tools for the price. My first pair was used years for modeling until they had a run in with hardened wire in an imported floral arrangement. (keep your tools away from your spouse) These are designed for precision cutting in plastic, wood, or soft metals. They will cut jewelry wire, model parts from plastic or brass sprues, and similar materials. They cut flush and leave a nice clean edge and should give years of service with normal use. The handle is comfortable.
Don’t expect them to cut hardened wire, piano wire, etc. There are other tools for that. I don’t think you will find a better hobby flush cutter for this price.

Cheap Stanley 33-516 16 x 1-Inch Powerlock Tape Rule Reinforced with Blade Armor Coating Review

We recently purchased a Stanley 33-516 16×1 inch tape measure for my husband. This size (16×1) is almost impossible to find without it coming in the “case on steroids” size. I did quite of bit of looking to find it, so we ordered two … one for now and one for later. It came quickly and just as expected. If I had a “negative” to offer, I don’t believe the dimensions given in the ad were correct, but the consumer comments let me know this was the product for which I had searched. Good job!!!Stanley 33-516 16 x 1-Inch Powerlock Tape Rule Reinforced with Blade Armor Coating

Cheap Black & Decker FireStorm 18 Volt FSX18HD Cordless Hammer Drill (Bare Tool only) Review

I have bought 4 black and decker 18 volt drills, 1 radio, 1 saw, 1 circular saw, and 1 flashlight and a total of 10 nicad batteries in the past 6 years. I bought two of these FSX18HD drills without batteries. This drill is clearly the most powerful drill in this product line and is a must if you want to continue using the NICAD batteries you have already. I refreshed all of my batteries very effectively using two 12 volt auto batteries and following instructions I found on the web. These drills will make the best use of these refreshed batteries so I don’t need to spend 200 – 400 dollars on the new products now available. The only downside I see is the weight, but with the weight you get a lot of power.

This is a nice assortment of washers for the price. It’s too bad that shipping costs doubles the price.

Cheap Irwin 2078900 Vise-Grip 6-1/2-Inch Convertible Snap Ring Pliers Review

I can’t understand the previous commenter’s issue with the pliers. The pivot pin has a small metal slide at the opposite end of a spring at the mushroomed head. You put the particular plier tongs part you want in the appropriate position and push the pin through the spring, the plier tongs and the main hinge of the tool. While pushing the mushroomed end and nearly compressing the spring completely, you pull the metal slide out, pivot it parallel to the plane of the tool and slide the plate so that it straddles the hole. Release the pressure and the tool stays intact. I could see where it’s perhaps a little too complicated for what it does but once you figure it out (the directions are rather horrendous) the tool works well. One beef is that they could have provided a pouch or a cheap plastic box to keep the main tool and the plier bits together.
It’s a good tool. It gets dings for the directions and lack of storage when not in use.

Cheap Stanley 66-565 Screwdriver Set, 6-Piece Review

I have several Klein screwdrivers, but when I needed a full set I did not want to spend the money on the expensive Kleins. This Stanley set has the rubber covers on the handles like the Kleins, and have a nice feel in your hands. I am very happy with this set, and would recommend it to anyone who needs a set without spending a lot of money.

Cheap Freud EB-090 Hand Trimmer for Edge Banding Review

Couple of things…trimming blades were mounted backwards and bevel blades will need to be adjusted. Wood grain is almost never straight, trimming both sides at the same time with wodd grain veneers will not happen – at least not with desired results. REmove blades from one side to allow you to squeeze the tool or just use one side of the tool and lay board over a flat surface. Plan on replacing the blades every roll of banding – 250′ (wood banding anyway). Other than these details, which are minor, it will leave a very nice clean edge with minimal effort especially compared to razor blades and slivvers. If you plan on doing any reasonable amount of banding with out going commercial, I would consider it an essential tool.
