Cheap Garmin nuvi 1450T 5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with nuMaps Lifetime Review

It isn’t everything it could be. Maybe it isn’t fair to compare something to what I want as opposed to letting it stand on its own merits, but then again that’s part of what a review is for. First off a bit of history. My first automotive GPS was a Garmin Streetpilot 3+, a beast of a unit that was huge and heavy (due in no small part to the fistful of batteries required for out-of-car use) and that used a rather small memory card to hold area maps instead of the entire U.S. While it was a nice unit for its time and quite sturdy, it was very slow and ungainly. My next unit, a Garmin Streetpilot 2620, served me fabulously well from 2005 until a few weeks ago when the hard drive failed. I also own a Garmin 7200 with a seven inch screen and XM radio which my wife has commandeered. The 2620 and 7200 are, in my opinion, a couple of the finest GPS’s ever built and have forever altered my perception of what a GPS should truly be. Since receiving my Nuvi I have had the chance to give it a small workout and find it quite similar to my other Garmins with some updated graphics and better spoken information. My other units showed an arrow as a track marker while the Nuvi has optional markers that look like cars, trucks, even feet! The entire display is updated with much smoother lines and richer colors. It’s a bit like moving from VGA graphics to a 32-bit true-color PC display, nice to look at and much easier to tell what things are. This unit continues Garmin’s wonderful tradition of announcing which side of the road the destination is located on, a feature lacking in some units, and adds a (new to me) feature of speaking names of destinations rather than simply calling them “destination” as with my older units. Satellite acquisition is fairly fast compared to my other Garmins and location data appears to be very accurate. I haven’t had the opportunity to experience the intersection lane position feature, but am looking forward to that. The suction cup mount is the first one I have ever used and is surprisingly good! The lifetime traffic and maps features should prove to be worthwhile options and I intend to make use of them both. The database of businesses is in typical Garmin style well represented with even small ‘mom and pop’ establishments listed. Routing is intuitive and works as well as my older Garmins which is a real blessing. You might be wondering why I didn’t give it five stars instead of four. Well, one really huge disappointment for me is the lack of a remote control. My 2620 and 7200 both have remotes and I can’t begin to tell you how much I grew to depend on them. It is so much easier to input route information with a remote while driving since you don’t have to take your mind off your driving and lean forward to fiddle with the touchscreen. Ask yourself this: would you like to go back to changing TV channels without a remote? If you’ve ever had a GPS with a remote you probably won’t be satisfied with one that doesn’t have one. Unfortunately you would have a hard time finding one with a remote anymore since everybody is going for tiny ultralight units. Bad decision!!! Another sticking point, and this one is minor although it does bother me, is something Garmin started somewhere between the 2620 and the 7200 and has continued to the Nuvi. Sometimes the voice prompt will say “…please navigate to the highlighted route…” without telling you how to get there. My 2620 would NEVER tell me that! The 2620 told me exactly where to go at all times. The 7200 and the Nuvi, however, both have this same deficiency and I am not sure why Garmin is not correcting it!?!? Minor, but an issue nonetheless. Another area where the Nuvi is lacking is the absence of a way to connect an external GPS antenna. OK, so if you always mount the GPS on the windshield that will never be a problem, but with my 2620 and 7200 units I could put them on the floor on top of the tranny hump where they were out of the direct sunlight and put an external antenna on the dash or on the roof and get wonderful reception. In fact, an external antenna produced MUCH better reception at all times compared to the internal antenna. So why did Garmin do away with the connector? Ignoring the things I prefer, this GPS rates very high in functionality and features and is a worthy unit. I anticipate it serving me well for a long time. One other thing: some folks have indicated that the cigarette lighter power cord isn’t up to the challenge of operating the GPS and keeping it charged at the same time. This unit offers to turn off whenever the cord is disconnected which leads me to believe that the cord is plenty able to handle the power requirements of the GPS. I would expect nothing less from Garmin!

Cheap Camco 43051 RV 20′ Sidewinder Plastic Sewer Hose Support Review

This folds up to a nice compact package that is easy to store when not in use. I have found this will actually extend MORE than 20 feet, actually closer to 30 feet, and still work. It is just not as stable. It also works just fine for shorter distances. Just extend as far as needed and you’re in business!

iSimple ISVE913 3.5mm Mini Male to 3.5mm Jack

Cheap iSimple ISVE913 3.5mm Mini Male to 3.5mm Jack Review

Purchased this to connect my phone to my radio in my car. The cable itself is very well made as other have said. The reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is because the end doesn’t quite fit into my phone right. It’s slightly too large to make great contact and frequently has to be jiggled and readjusted to get the music to play through all 4 speakers. Will keep the cable, but I bought an “mini” cable at wal-mart today that fits much better. The quality isn’t as high as this one, so I expect it to stop working a lot faster than this cable, though. Good product, just not exactly what I was looking for. Also, length is great for a car.

R134a T SUB ZERO SYN. A/C BOOSTER 19 OZ WITH DISP.

Cheap R134a T SUB ZERO SYN. A/C BOOSTER 19 OZ WITH DISP. Review

It’s getting hot here in Virgina. Was traveling over the weekend and wanted to try this stuff – at from a drug store, I figured it was worth a shot.

Had the dealer work on the AC two years ago. Paid 0 (with warranty) and it worked well for one summer. Last summer, I complained like crazy about how worthless the warranty was and that the 0 repair didn’t last three months. The deal said they replaced all sorts of parts and pumps and the AC did work again for about one season.

This year, its hot. The AC sux again. I went to a drug store on a long steamy road trip with my kids to give it – anything – a try. My poor kids were baking.

It took me an hour to figure out all how to properly puncture the can and get the stuff to go into the system.

But it works.

Its been about a week, and it still works. It’s 100 degrees here. It works. For . It works. That’s all I wanted to say. It works. I’m assuming I’ve got a leak somewhere because the dealer worked on it twice already and both times the AC fizzes out after a couple months. SO, it may be good for years – but assuming it fails after one summer, no wait, even if I have to refill this stuff every 10 days – it’s still a better deal than visiting the dealer.

Thule 518 Fork Mount Rooftop Bicycle Carrier

Cheap Thule 518 Fork Mount Rooftop Bicycle Carrier Review

I have an older Peloton (517) but bought two of the Echelon (518) and really enjoy the difference in quality and ease of use. The head is heavy and sturdy and the locks are easier to reach. Actually, everything else (the tire tray) is about the same as the Peloton – it is the head and the mounting bracket that make them different. The bracket is also extremly solid, securing the carrier completely across the base of the head. The Peloton has more of a U-bolt type of bracket and it always makes me feel as if the bike could wobble a bit at high speed.
I am a faithful Prime member and truly buy most everything from Amazon, including expensive cameras and tools. But for some reason I actually had a couple of returns with this product. I had ordered another Peloton first, but it came with a bolt that was not threaded properly, so I returned it and got an Echelon but it had scratches on the tray, so I returned that also and got the two Echelons at East Providence Cycle, my local bike shop.
Let me also add that no store is more accomodating with returns than Amazon. I am always confident in my purchases that they will be stressfree that way.

FRAM CF9846A Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter

Cheap FRAM CF9846A Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter Review

When the Toyota Dealership told me they were going to charge me to replace the cabin air filter, I laughed in their face.

I knew I can get it here on Amazon for , and it took me all of 5 minutes to change it on my own. And this one with the baking soda in the mesh should work MUCH better than the OEM one, which tends to stink up after a few months.

The next time I take my car to the stealership for maintenance I can’t do myself, they will see that I changed the cabin filter and won’t pester me to pay them to do it anymore. Ha.

Novus 1, 2, 3 Kit Plastic Polish and Scratch Remover

Cheap Novus 1, 2, 3 Kit Plastic Polish and Scratch Remover Review

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima and the headlights were starting to look foggy, so I did a quick google search and it led me to this product. Not much info was given about it, so I opted for the one with the ‘cloth’ and the bigger 8 oz. bottles. This product worked perfect, I just paid for more than I needed. Let me explain…

First off the ‘cloth’ is a glorified paper towel. DO NOT let that be a factor in your decision! I thought it would be a nice polishing cloth, sandpaper, or something worth while, but no… It’s just a paper towel. If you find a cheaper option without it, go for it!

Second, the #3 bottle was useless. It is meant to take out ‘bigger’ scratches, but it didn’t work for me. I used the three step process “as is” and saw no difference at all. What made the difference was sanding. I would not purchase the #3 bottle again.

I read that a good technique for sanding is to use 800, 1000, then 1500 grain sandpaper to prepare my headlights for this product. I also read it takes over 2 hours! Another opinion was that all you need to do is use 2000 grain sandpaper and that would save you time. I went that route. I had a little trouble finding the sandpaper as my local hardware store didn’t carry it, but wally world had it in the auto section for about .

If you have deep scratches or any imperfections you can feel by touch I recommend getting a lower grain sandpaper to buff that out, then wet sanding (sanding with water) with either the 1500 or 2000. This will save you some time, but you could just use the higher grain sandpaper, it will just take longer.

After sanding your headlights, or whatever plastic you are working on, should have an even haze throughout. If you can still see the imperfections in the haze, repeat the sanding process until they are gone.

This is where the Bottle #2 comes in and works great! This is intended for small scratches, and will fill all the ones you just created by sanding perfectly. Apply this with a paper towel like you are applying wax to a car, then let it sit for a few minutes. There were no instructions on what to do with all this gunk #2 leaves behind, so I used the #1 bottle to wash it off.

When I cleaned it off I was left with crystal clear plastic! It was AMAZING! I could still see a few imperfections, but they were only left behind because I didn’t sand deep enough to get them out.

Good
+ #2 bottle works wonders!

Bad
- Paper towel advertised as a cloth
- #3 bottle useless (for me at least)
- #1 bottle could easily be replaced by windex or any other plastic friendly cleaner of your choice.
- 8 oz. was way too much for me

This product did exactly what I wanted it to do! My headlights look clear as crystal! I hope this review helps other people to pick what they need for their project.

“F Type 75 Ohm Terminator, Pkg/10″

Cheap “F Type 75 Ohm Terminator, Pkg/10″ Review

Wondered about the bent center conductors at first, then noticed the insert page with RED INK telling me that the bent center conductors are normal, and appropriate, and why they are like that (keeps them from puncturing the shipping materials). I can see “experience” written all over that page – and I thank them for providing it!! Terminators work perfectly, quality is excellent – the threads turn smoothly and don’t “grind” the way poor quality ones do, shipping was nearly instantaneous, even though I used the cheapest method. Good Job!
